La Zimnicea, județul Teleorman, Dunărea marchează granița cu Bulgaria; orașul a fost un punct strategic de trecere a fluviului în Războiul de Independență din 1877, când armata rusă a trecut aici Dunărea spre Șiștov. Dunărea este apă publică: se pescuiește cu permisul de pescuit recreativ ANADSPA (fosta ANPA), fără taxă proprie; fiind sector de frontieră cu Bulgaria, e nevoie și de avizul Poliției de Frontieră. Speciile sunt cele din lista oficială a Dunării (Ordinul MADR nr. 52/2025).
