Lacul Talabasca
Public waterin Galați county

About this spot
Lacul Talabasca, attested as early as 1660, was for almost three centuries a landmark for anglers in the counties of Galați and Vrancea. Around 1920 it was developed as a fish lake, fed artificially from the Siret River by pumps and naturally from the Călmățui stream, reaching a surface area of about 139 hectares, with a fishing station (cherhana) that supplied the communities of the area until the 1950s. After collectivisation it became the exclusive property of the state, and after 1990 the lake was left to decay, gradually drying up to about 75% of its original surface, despite its status as a protected area. Today it is a public water, without a manager: fishing is with the ANADSPA (formerly ANPA) recreational fishing permit.
