The Delta, border waters and reservoirs

The rules that add to the general ones in the Danube Delta, on the Prut, the Tisza, the border Danube and on reservoirs.

Danube Delta (Biosphere Reserve)

  • You need the ARBDD recreational fishing permit (free) and the reserve access permit -- the ANADSPA (formerly ANPA) permit isn't valid in the Delta.
  • Fishing is allowed only on the lakes and channels in annex 3 of Order 159/1266/2011; strictly protected zones are closed.
  • Pike, zander, catfish and carp: catch & release, with at most one fish per day of a single species; when leaving, at most 10 kg of fish per angler or 15 kg per family, however many days you stayed.
  • The pike closed season is longer in the Delta (until 7 June).
  • Between 1 March and 9 April there's no fishing in front of the streams and channels that feed the lakes (500 m on each side).
  • Tents only at authorised campsites; the boat also needs an access permit.

Border waters (the Prut, the Tisza, the border Danube)

  • Besides the permit, you need the Border Police's approval for that area.
  • On the Prut you can only fish during the day, because of the border regime.
  • Closed season on border waters: 24 April - 7 June (45 days). On the Prut and the Stânca-Costești reservoir: 9 April - 7 June (60 days).
  • Don't cross the border line by boat and don't land on the other bank.

Reservoirs and dams

  • Most reservoirs are contracted by associations or forestry directorates: besides the ANADSPA (formerly ANPA) permit, you need their permit (the “Permit” row on the water's page tells you which).
  • On rivers there's no fishing within 500 m downstream of dams.
  • Drinking-water reservoirs and biological recovery zones are closed to fishing -- in RoFish they appear as “Fishing forbidden”.
  • The water level can change suddenly when the sluice gates open: don't settle on low gravel bars below a dam.
