What you need

  • main line 0.16-0.22 mm
  • 3-8 g waggler float (with an antenna)
  • stop (a line knot or silicone stop) + bead
  • split shot or olivette leads
  • small swivel
  • 0.12-0.16 mm hooklength, 20-40 cm
  • hook size 10-16

Steps

  1. 1

Tie the stop on the line at the depth you want (it can be moved); add the bead, then the float (clipped to a snap or sliding through its eye).

  2. 2

Place the main lead (80-90 % of the float's rating) 30-50 cm from the hook and 1-2 small shot lower down.

  3. 3

Tie on the swivel, then the hooklength with the hook.

  4. 4

Adjust the depth: the bait should touch the bottom or sit 10-20 cm above it, depending on the fish.

  5. 5

Cast, dip the rod tip under the surface and give the reel 2-3 turns to sink the line (so the wind doesn't catch it).

Tips

  • Only 1-2 cm of the float's antenna should show above the water: when it lifts = a Prussian carp/bream bite.
  • In wind, put the lead lower and use a heavier float.
