Steps

  1. 1

Tie a small loop at one end of the hooklength (a “figure 8” knot or double loop) -- the boilie is attached to it with a stop.

  2. 2

Pass the free end through the hook's eye from the inside out and adjust the length of the “hair”: the boilie should hang 5-10 mm below the hook's bend.

  3. 3

Hold the hair against the hook's shank and wrap the hooklength around the shank and the hair 7-9 times, from the eye towards the bend.

  4. 4

Push the free end back through the eye, in the same direction as the first time (from the inside).

  5. 5

Wet it and tighten; the turns should sit neatly on the shank.

  6. 6

At the other end tie the loop that attaches to the swivel (figure 8) or tie the swivel on with a Palomar.

Tips

  • The hook should “turn” in your hand when you pull the hooklength -- a sign the angle is right.
  • On braid, a silicone sleeve over the eye improves the hooking angle.
