FG (braid to fluorocarbon) knot

The slim knot for spinning: braid to fluorocarbon/mono; it passes through the rings without catching.

hard · ~100 % of braid strength

Steps

  1. 1

Hold the fluorocarbon taut (between your teeth and hand, or clipped to the reel) and lay the braid across it.

  2. 2

Weave the braid around the fluorocarbon: one pass over, one under, alternating, 18-22 tight passes -- the fluorocarbon stays straight, the braid “wraps” it.

  3. 3

Lock the weave with 2-3 half hitches of the braid around the fluorocarbon and its own line.

  4. 4

Trim the fluorocarbon's end very short (1 mm) and make 4-5 more half hitches with the braid over the end, for protection.

  5. 5

Trim the braid's end. Test it: pull hard -- a good FG knot doesn't slip at all.

Tips

  • Tie it at home, not on the bank in the wind. Keep everything under tension the whole time.
