Steps

  1. 1

Lay the end of the line along the hook's shank, from the bend towards the spade, leaving 10 cm.

  2. 2

Form a loop with the end back towards the bend, holding it against the shank.

  3. 3

With the part of the loop near the spade, wrap 7-10 tight turns around the shank and the line.

  4. 4

Hold the turns with your finger and pull the long line so the loop closes under the turns.

  5. 5

Wet it, tighten it, trim the end.

Tips

  • There are cheap hook-tying tools for spade-end hooks -- they tie the same knot in 10 seconds.
