- Wide, underslung mouth with SIX barbels (4 on the snout, 2 longer ones at the corners of the mouth)
- Cylindrical body with sparse, very small scales, covered in thick slime; square-cut tail
- Greenish-yellow with irregular black blotches; lives on stony bottoms in mountain streams
